Martes de Galería: Santurce's First Tuesday
On the first Tuesday of each month, galleries, studios, and cultural institutions across Santurce open on the same night, free of charge.
On the first Tuesday of every month, Santurce's galleries, artist studios, and cultural institutions open their doors on the same evening. Martes de Galería turns the San Juan district into a single circuit of exhibition openings, open studios, live music, and small markets, most of it running from around six until ten at night.

A tradition brought back
The idea is not new to the neighborhood. According to the organizers, artists, galleries, and institutions in Santurce opened their doors to the public through the 1990s and 2000s, and later initiatives such as Noches de Galería and Santurce es Ley carried that habit forward. Trailer Park Proyects and Constructo revived it under its current name, and the first edition took place on October 7, 2025. It is now organized each month with the help of volunteers, gallery owners, and neighbors.
The circuit
Participating spaces range from museums to working studios. They include the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC), MUSAN, Constructo, El Kilómetro, Sabroso! Arte Contemporáneo, the headquarters of Agua, Sol y Sereno, Galería Petrus, Taller La Goyco, and :Pública, among many others. The October 2026 programme listed 45 events.

A trolley links the stops, among them Cerra, Constructo, MAC, MUSAN, and La Goyco, so the night can be followed on foot, by trolley, or both. The organizers' website includes a map of the route and a tool for planning a personal itinerary.

How it works
Every event on the circuit is free and open to the public. The organizers set out four principles: free access, artists first, a lively neighborhood that supports local shops, kitchens, and independent spaces, and community. Each event carries the name of its artist.
Why it is in the archive
Martes de Galería offers a direct way into Santurce's art scene: new exhibitions, the people who make them, and the spaces that sustain them, all within a few streets and on one evening.
